Everything You Need to Know About Hair Restoration

Hair loss is one of the most common signs of aging, and one of the most common concerns we hear about at Premier Skin Clinic. Both men and women suffer from early hair loss or thinning due to hormonal changes and the natural aging process.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy and KeraLase hair restoration have gained popularity as innovative and effective solutions for combating hair loss and promoting hair regrowth, and we offer both in our clinic.

In this blog post, we’ll delve into the details of these two approaches, exploring their mechanisms, benefits, and what sets them apart in the realm of hair restoration.

What is hair restoration?

Hair restoration refers to the various medical and cosmetic procedures designed to address hair loss and promote the regrowth of hair. People seek hair restoration for a variety of reasons, including genetic predisposition, hormonal changes, aging, or medical conditions that contribute to hair thinning or baldness. The goal of hair restoration is to improve the overall appearance of the hair, enhance its density, and boost self-confidence.

Does hair restoration work for women too?

Yes! Both men and women naturally experience thinning hair and/or hair loss with aging. We can stimulate your very own hair to grow in thicker and fuller, boosting your self-confidence.

How long does hair restoration take?

Each session of PRP hair restoration in our office takes approximately 60 minutes, while KeraLase sessions take about 30. Since our hair restoration treatments are natural and promote the growth of your own hair, using no synthetics, results become visible in 2-5 months post-treatment and continue to improve for 12-18 months post-treatment.

How long does it take to recover from hair restoration?

Social downtime is typically less than one day. KeraLase patients must avoid direct sunlight and refrain from washing their hair for 24 hours after treatment. Irritation and scalp pain from PRP hair restoration subsides 3 to 7 days after treatment.

What are the side effects of hair restoration procedures?

Side effects of Keralase include redness and a mild burning sensation on the scalp, which subsides within two days after treatment.

PRP hair restoration may cause scalp pain and irritation for a few days post-treatment. Other reported side effects are mild and include dizziness, nausea, and scar tissue at the injection site. Always contact one of our practitioners if you experience severe side effects or persistent discomfort.

What is PRP hair restoration?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) hair restoration uses platelets from your own blood injected into your scalp to stimulate hair follicles to grow hair. First, one of our medical practitioners will apply topical anesthetic to your scalp to ensure a comfortable treatment.

While this anesthetic sets for 30-45 minutes, your practitioner will draw blood from your arm, just like a blood test. Then, we place the blood in a centrifuge. This separates the plasma from the red and white blood cells.

Once we have isolated the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the sample, we will place the contents in a syringe. Our hair loss expert will then strategically inject the PRP into the scalp using a very thin needle or massage it with a micro-channeling device. We specifically target areas of lost or thinning hair.

Four to six treatments are recommended for most patients. Over time, your body’s natural hair growth process is stimulated and encourages thick, beautiful hair to grow back in thinning areas.

What is KeraLase hair restoration?

KeraLase is a laser treatment applied to the scalp to stimulate hair growth. The laser creates microchannels in your skin before hair growth factor serum is applied. The laser amplifies the skin’s absorption of the serum by 5 to 7 times.

This experience is gentle and cost-effective, requiring no anesthetic. Many of our patients describe the laser as feeling “warm,” but not uncomfortable. Short, 30-minute sessions are spaced 4-6 weeks apart, typically including 6 rounds of treatment.

KeraLase is ideal for patients with Androgenetic Alopecia, Telogen Effluvium, or certain scalp conditions. Whether you are dealing with thinning hair, post-childbirth hair loss, stress-induced hair issues, or a physician-managed thyroid imbalance, KeraLase may be your solution for fuller, healthier hair.

PRP Hair Restoration vs. KeraLase

Both PRP therapy and Keralase hair restoration have shown promising results in the battle against hair loss. The choice between the two often depends on individual preferences, goals, and the underlying causes of hair loss. One of our medical professionals will help you determine the most suitable approach based on your unique circumstances and desired outcome.
