Everything You Need to Know About the PDO Thread Lift

If you’re not ready for invasive cosmetic procedures but are looking for more permanent skin tightening than facials can provide, then the PDO (Polydioxanone) Thread Lift from Premier Skin Clinic may be just the thing for you.
What is a PDO Thread Lift?

A PDO Thread Lift uses a biodegradable suture to lift and rejuvenate skin. It is less invasive than surgery and can often be performed in under 45 minutes, earning it the nickname “Lunch-Time Facelift.”

What areas can a PDO Thread Lift treat?

A PDO Thread Lift can be used to treat almost any area of the face, jaw, and neck. Common areas of focus include:

  • Naso jugal folds
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Jowls
  • Crow’s Feet
  • Undereye area
  • Eyebrows
  • Marionette lines
  • Cheeks
  • A current popular treatment for younger clients is the cat eye threadlift!

How long does a PDO Thread Lift last?

Threads typically last 12-18 months and best results are 4-6 months, depending on factors like age and skin volume and elasticity. Younger patients may see results up to 4 years, while older patients or those with poor skin volume and elasticity can expect threads to last a shorter amount of time.

The threads dissolve but produce an increase in collagen that lasts the 12-18 months.

What happens during the procedure?

Before treatment, you’ll be advised to avoid alcohol and tobacco for 5 days leading up to your procedure, as well as anything that may increase the risk of bleeding or bruising, such as:

  • Advil and ibuprofen
  • Aspirin
  • Omega-3 fatty acids
  • Green tea
  • Certain other supplements

Your exact procedure may vary depending on your needs, but will look something like this:

  • Your practitioner will disinfect your face with alcohol and apply a local anesthetic with a needle
  • For each thread, your practitioner will make a small incision with a sharp-tipped needle, then insert a cannula (a blunt-tipped needle) into the hole
  • Your practitioner will anchor the thread into place, then pull out the cannula
  • Any excess thread will be trimmed, and your practitioner will check to be sure the thread remains firmly in place

PDO Thread Lift Recovery Time & Expectations

The “Lunch-Time Facelift” nickname for the PDO Thread Lift is accurate – you can return to normal daily activities right after the procedure. You may have some swelling and bruising, which usually dissipates after 48 hours. Activities that could dislodge a thread are discouraged for a few weeks following your procedure. These include:

  • Dental visits
  • Smoking
  • Drinking through a straw
  • Rubbing your face
  • Sleeping on your side or stomach
  • Intense exercise
  • Holding your mouth open for an extended period of time

How safe is a PDO Thread Lift?

PDO Thread Lifts have a much lower rate of complications than invasive face lifts. The PDO Thread Lift is FDA-approved. No allergic reactions or sensitivities to threads have been reported. Complications are generally minor and temporary or easily remedied, such as bruising, inflammation, or snapping of threads.
