Vaginal Lasers: diVa® vs. Mona Lisa
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we have seen in our patients what a challenging journey breast cancer can be, accompanied by intense treatments like chemotherapy that can have significant effects on a woman’s body. The diVa® vaginal laser is a great option for post-chemo patients or anyone experiencing intimate concerns that affect sexual wellness. At Premier Skin Clinic, vaginal laser rejuvenation is one of our highest patient satisfaction procedures. In fact, diVa® has a 98% “worth it” rating on RealSelf.com from over 3,000 customer reviews.
What does the diVa® vaginal laser treat?
As a trustworthy medical spa in Fort Collins, we have seen firsthand how childbirth, menopause, chemotherapy, or other life events can affect a woman’s sexual wellness. The innovative diVa® laser, created by Sciton, a leading laser technology company, can address a variety of external and internal vaginal concerns, including:
- Urinary incontinence, due to weakened vaginal wall tissue
- Vaginal dryness
- Decreased sensation
- Painful intercourse
- Vaginal laxity
How does the diVa® vaginal laser work?
The diVa® laser works internally, with a 360º wand that uses a combination of two wavelengths to address vaginal concerns. The first wavelength performs laser resurfacing of the surface layers of the vaginal walls. Simultaneously, the second wavelength emits heat to stimulate collagen production in deep tissue.
What is recovery from diVa® vaginal laser treatment like?
Before we even start your procedure, our practitioners apply a numbing cream to the vaginal wall to minimize discomfort. The treatment is quick, typically less than 10 minutes, and there is no recovery downtime or social downtime. Vaginal penetration should be avoided for 48 hours post-treatment. Each procedure (three to four are ideal for most patients, followed by one annual maintenance treatment) is performed one month apart, to ensure tissue is fully healed.
We use the diVa® laser instead of Mona Lisa or other vaginal lasers for a number of reasons. Compared with other options, the diVa® laser:
- Is the only FDA-approved hand piece
- Sciton’s diVa® laser penetrates deeper layers of tissue than others
- Goes all the way around the vaginal wall – 360º – versus others that emit lasers in one small area at a time
- Consistently provides superior results for clients compared with other laser I
- Is faster and gentler than other options
- Has a hand piece that utilizes mechanical delivery – rather than manual delivery – ensuring consistent, safe, effective results
How can diVa® vaginal laser treatment help me after chemotherapy?
Post-chemotherapy, patients tend to have very thin vaginal tissue and difficulty with lubrication that makes sexual intercourse painful. This has a great effect on their relationships. The diVa® regenerates tissue and increases blood flow to the area. When tissue is healthier, lubrication improves, and most patients find that intercourse again becomes pleasurable.
What will happen at my diVa® vaginal laser treatment at Premier Skin Clinic?
At Premier Skin Clinic, only our Nurse Practitioners perform vaginal laser rejuvenation. They are medically trained to provide gynecological exams and ensure safety for each client prior to treatment. Prior to beginning treatment, our practitioners will provide a full explanation of how vaginal rejuvenation works and answer any questions you have.
Before laser treatment begins, your practitioner will apply a numbing cream internally and externally to maintain comfort during the procedure. After the numbing cream is properly set, we will insert the laser wand into the opening of the vagina. A disposable piece is applied to the wand before each treatment, eliminating body contact between each client for cleanliness and safety.
The laser wand will remain inserted for about 10 minutes, while lasers of different wavelengths resurface vaginal walls, stimulate collagen production in deep tissue, regenerate tissue, and increase vaginal blood flow. There is no recovery or downtime required from this procedure, other than avoiding vaginal penetration for 48 hours post-treatment.
Call 970-221-1285 to book your consultation, where one of our nurse practitioners will provide information about vaginal laser treatments to determine if this procedure is right for you.
